Sports Feature: Carlos Gonzalez

I did a sports feature story for my photojournalism class. I did it on a track and field official named Carlos Gonzalez. I got to know the rules of track and field, and what it takes to get certified to become a track and field official.

Carlos Gonzalez, an official for U.S.A Track and Field, makes sure a Fullerton javelin thrower follows legal throwing procedures. “I make sure they don’t step over the throwing line, and I jot down how far the athletes throw the javelin.”

Carlos Gonzalez, an official for U.S.A Track and Field penalized a Santiago Canyon College javelin thrower for being tardy to the event on Friday afternoon at Santa Ana College. “There are times when you have guys competing in several events and they show up late, but this guy didn’t even show up to warm ups.” Checking throwers in is only one facet of Gonzalez’s job; he also makes sure that throwers are following line regulations, and he keeps track of the distances the javelin is thrown.
