Environmental Portrait

The country that I have been assigned is Egypt. I got into contact with an old friend from high school who practices Islam, and who's father had spent some time in Egypt. Her father Muhamed Elarby took me to a Muslim Mosque in Anaheim on a Tuesday night so that I could see Muslim prayer and custom in action. The first picture is of a man whom is doing Wudu. Wudu is the practice of washing one self before praying to Allah. The second picture is of Muslim men praying along with a head prayer leader. The amount of pictures I took was very limited due to how private the act of prayer in a Mosque is. I had a few people confront me about taking pictures, but as soon as I told them who I was with they left me alone. It was still pretty scary having upset people walking up to me looking like they were about to knock me out if I didn't stop taking pictures!

Daily Titan Assignment

For my first assignment for Communications 319 (photojournalism) I covered a story for the Daily Titan. I covered the opening of Jophen Stein's new exhibition at the Rothick Art Haus in Anaheim. The new exhibition was called Laundry Service.

Jophen Stein is a painter from Pomona who graduated from the Laguna College of Art and Design in 2003. He is showing his new series entitled Laundry Service at the Rothick Art Haus in Anaheim during the month of February.

This is the shot that made it on the Daily Titan. It is a picture of a member of the Live Painting group called The Nice Penguins who made an appearance at the opening night of Jophen Stein's Laundry Service.
